This social networking startup has a unique focus - providing a platform for politically active people to research candidates and races, and to form communities based on common issues and goals. The intent is to provide a non-partisan clearing house of political information, featuring every race and every candidate for the 2008 General Election, from the President all the way down to state legislatures. Future plans are in place to push the coverage down to the local level.

The site is based on a Microsoft infrastructure, developed in ASP.NET, SQL Server, and running on IIS. Extensive backend automation was completed in Java. Nick Svolos of Golconda Systems served the organization as the technical lead, and provided his software development expertise in addition to leading a team of offshore developers.

An alpha version of Votimus.com may be found here. The company is currently on haitus as a second round of funding is taking place, and as such the site may be offline. Screenshots are provided below, so you can see the work that was completed.

Main Screen

This is the entry page for the site. The user can go to areas to search the elections or candidates database, or go directly to elections and candidates that the user has selected to track. Also available are a blog, and a search engine for election-related news.

The Election Map

The primary focus of the site was to provide a simple means of "drilling down" to the races that most interest the user. A flash map is used to provide this interface, with certain "hot" races identified and marked on the map. Continuing to drill down to state-level races allows the user to select races by district.

Election Pages

Upon selecting an election, the user can see the details of the race. Each candidate is presented, along with news pertaining to the candidates in the race. Additional links are available to take the user to the candidates positions on important issues and the "Buzz", an innovative description of the status of the race as well as key issues.

Candidate Profiles

Each candidate has a profile automatically created from public data. Candidates also have the option to join the site and directly update their data and photo.
